School of Accounting & Management Information Systems

The primary mission of The University of Tulsa’s School of Accounting and MIS is to provide educational programs that prepare students for the role of business information professionals with expertise in analysis, reporting and translating complex information into critical knowledge for decision-making.

The accounting profession continues to change as accounting professionals embrace a new vision. (Learn more about the CPA Vision.) In addition to traditional accounting topics, our program emphasizes leadership and communication skills, technology and a global perspective.

Our MIS program is committed to educating students as leaders in a world that requires information and knowledge. Our curriculum stresses the importance of interpersonal skills as well as the technical aspects of the degree.

In addition to a strong liberal arts education foundation, we emphasize relevant and integrated knowledge of business, technology, systems and people to enable our graduates to solve problems and create solutions in a rapidly changing world. Our faculty strives to create a climate that motivates students to acquire both technical knowledge and transferable skills. To achieve this type of learning environment, active participation and learning by discovery are used throughout our curriculum. In addition to the requisite technical knowledge, we strive to provide our graduates with:

  • Lifelong learning tools
  • Critical thinking abilities
  • Effective personal and communication skills
  • Information technology skills
  • Professional team leadership abilities
  • A global view of business issues and opportunities
